When we got to Alaska I had been thinking I’d be surrounded by nothing but snow and tundra.  Then I saw green.  Green, blue, brown, white, pink, yellow, and so on and so forth.  Of course…we went somewhere green.  I was reminded of when I first got to Forks.  I thought it was too green.  I figured in a way that Edward had done this on purpose.  Most likely so I felt more at home but also just because it was simply green.  Thanks.

We reached a house that was, of course, out farther away from the other homes.  I had to gasp when I saw the house…  It looked almost identical to my sanctuary in Forks.  The Cullen house.  My house.  It was about the same structure, but it seemed to have even more room.  It was a white house with a dark green trim and shutters to match.  There was a porch swing, and in the back there was a vast garden with a small pond.  It truly was a fantastic sight.  It looked elegant…but it was simple at the same time.  It was home, and it felt like home.

Emmett and Edward took in my bags as I stood with lowered jaw looking at the beauty before me.  I walked to the back to look at the garden a little more, and saw the pond.  There was a log that looked very much like the one that Jacob and I sat on by the ocean in La Push.  I stood there looking at it and remembered.  I chuckled as I remembered his cheery laugh; the one I loved hearing, and was comforted to have something here that would help me remember good times.  My eyes glistened with tears produced by pain, sorrow, and happiness.  What confusing emotions.  There was a small cold hand on mine suddenly and I turned to see Alice looking at me with comfort and understanding.

“Come on, let’s get inside.  You want to have first dibs on rooms don’t you,” she added giddily.

“Of course, Alice, let’s go,” I chuckled.  She wrapped her arm around my waist and rubbed my arm with her free hand as she guided me into the house.  I was grateful for the tenderness my family was showing me.  They knew this was definitely not going to be easy and were going to give their support at one hundred and fifty percent.  That I was sure of.  For Alice to be doing this for me brought warmth to my temporarily beating heart.

Edward had already picked out our room which, I wasn’t surprised, looked a lot like his old one.  It was reversed however.  We were on a different side of the house so the glass wall was on the opposite side this time.  It looked out onto the garden and beyond.  It was breathtaking.

“Bella?”

I spun around, startled out of my studying.  “Oh, Edward!  Sorry you scared me.  What is it?”

“Are you alright?  I mean…this is alright?”

“Of course it is…it’s beautiful.  It’s perfect.”

“Good, I’m glad,” he said with a big smile.  Then the smile turned into a line again.

“Are you alright about earlier?  About…”  He didn’t finish.  I knew what he was asking about.

“I’ll be fine.  It’s hard but I wouldn’t change anything.  I’m with my family and the man I love with my whole existence in this beautiful house.  I’m going to be just fine,” I said with a sincere smile.  I believed my words then.  I had just stepped onto the path of moving on.  It was going to be a long road, but it was one I was going to follow no matter what.

“I’m glad to hear that, Bella.  Come here,” he said.  I walked towards his open arms and let him enfold me in them.  His scent was soothing as always and I breathed him in.  He gently rubbed my back and pressed his lips to the top of my head.  He held me for a minute, then said, “Why don’t we help the others finish unpacking?”

I smiled.  “Yes, I would love to.”  He beamed and we walked back downstairs hand in hand.

“Careful, Emmett, it’s an antique,” Rosalie cautioned her husband that was carrying a large, and rather intricate, mirror.  Edward and I sniggered as they went past.

Alice was helping Esme and Carlisle and Jasper had gone out to the cars for more things.  The beautiful doctor came in holding one end of the beautiful cross while Jasper held the other.  I remembered when I had first seen it and was told the story behind it.  It was only natural to bring it with us.  Edward went to them and helped guide them to where it would be put.  Esme was unpacking the household items; pictures, knick-knacks, lamps, pots and pans (which was always funny considering they didn’t use them), and many other homely items.  I helped her and Alice unpack them and put them in their proper places.  I found it to be fun and was able to actually enjoy myself for a while.  I forgot about the gloom momentarily.  I glanced about the house looking at my family.  I knew I was home; everything was going to be fine.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had slept well that night in Edward’s arms.  He hummed as usual, and I dreamed of nothing.  I was very grateful for that; I couldn’t deal with anymore torturous dreams.  When I awoke I didn’t bother changing out of my pj’s and went downstairs with Edward.  We were going to have a meeting.  Today was the day…and I was scared out of my mind.

“Bella!  How are you feeling?  Need anything?”

“No thanks.  Thank you though, Esme.”

“Anytime dear,” she smiled.

“Well, better to just get this done, right,” Carlisle asked me.

“Yeah, let’s get this over with.”

Carlisle explained to me again the details of the turning and how we would go about my fake death.  I was going to kill Charlie, I knew I was.  I hated to think that I would never be able to see my dad again face to face.  If I ever saw him it would be from a distance, and he wouldn’t know it.  We were planning a car accident.  The story was that I would be traveling to go see Charlie in a couple weeks and run off the road trying to miss a car driving in the wrong lane.  Drunk driver perhaps.  There was a road that was perfect since there was quite a drop that no one would survive.  I would be ashes.  Gone.  What was going to be hardest for me was watching my funeral from a ways away.  Not being able to comfort my father and mother or my friends.  No this was not going to be easy at all.

We then continued to talk about what would happen with my turning.  The morphine would be on standby (I knew I wouldn’t use it), and there would be only Edward and I in the room.  That was all I could stand.  At least till the very end.  I wanted everyone there when it was over.  I was going to need the support.  I needed support now as well, because we were doing this.  We were doing this now.

We all stood up once we were done talking.  I was hugged by them all as a token of good luck.  Even Rosalie.  It wasn’t a very big hug but enough to let me know she cared.  Then Edward held my hand.

“Ready?”

“As ready as I’m going to be.”

He kissed me and then we walked up the stairs to his room, where we had the morphine ready in case it was needed.  I really didn't think it was necessary, but I did promise him.  He had added extra blankets and pillows to the bed to try and make it more comfortable, and he had a bowl of water with a cloth next to it on his desk.  There was also a pitcher of water and a glass at the ready.

"Oh boy..."

"I know...  I'll let you change."

"You don't need to really leave for that anymore silly."

He chuckled, "True, true."

I grabbed my jeans and a plain white t-shirt I had still packed and put them on.  I left my feet bare and I pulled my hair up into a pony tail.  I put the bracelet that Jacob made for me with the heart that Edward had put on it.  I always felt better with it on, knowing the meaning Edward gave behind the heart.  He smiled when I did this, and then swept me up and put me on the bed.

"Are you really sure, Bella?  There is no turning back.."

"..Yes.  I know, but I'm ready."

"Alright.  I love you, Bella, so much."

"I love you, too."

He kissed me with as much passion as he had on our wedding night.  I could tell he wanted our last few moments to be special and full of hope and love.  Always love, always hope, and always him.  I grazed my tongue along his and felt him shudder.  He grabbed my arms and held them for a while.  He broke away and looked at me with uncertainty in his eyes.

"You can do it, Edward, I know you can.  It's going to be fine, I'll be fine.  No matter how painful this is going to be, I'm going to be fine.  It's ok.."

He looked away for a moment and held his mouth in a firm line, as if fighting with himself.  "..Alright."

He looked back to me and his eyes were black again and smoldering.  He kissed my lips softly, trailed to my jaw line down to my throat where he paused.  His breathing on my neck was staggered and I gripped his shoulder for comfort.  Then his lips were on my neck and they slowly parted.

"Forgive me.."

"There's nothing to forgive," I whispered.

I felt his teeth sink in.  I gasped and clung to him as he bit me.  I felt only him biting me at first...and then the pain came.  Fast and hard.  It knocked the wind out of me.

My turning had started.
